Hey there!
My name is Colby and I’ve been tattooing for just over a year now starting at the beginning of 2024. I started my career with Motor City as an apprentice and I believe it was the best decision I could have made.
Growing up I was always inclined to the arts, from drawing, painting, prop making and even some short films made with friends that have been shown at TIFF young film makers festival. As a kid I was drawing quite often, inspired by my families many hand-me-down sketchbooks and paintings on display in our homes. I saw everything from beautiful landscapes, portraits of family members, the architectural designs for buildings I’ve been in, kids book illustrations and even my uncles tattoo work! (Shout out to him for helping me figure out how to get started in this industry)
I remember drawing on my grandpas tablet as a child thinking it was the biggest sci-fi advancement ever, and here I am today using an iPad about 50x more powerful to design tattoos for all of you!
I was lucky to have two amazing art teachers in high school that reignited my passion when I doubted myself and I truly believe without their guidance in honing my skills I wouldn’t be doing this job today. This is where I learned new ways of analyzing my subject matter for better results and truly got into drawing realism. Afterwards I decided to take a Game Art course at George Brown Colleges newest campus where I learned lots of applicable tools I still use today, however my time there was unfortunately cut short due to COVID-19. After being in a management position for some time afterwards, I realized it didn’t align with my long term goals or lifestyle. So I decided to take the leap of faith and pursue my true passion of being an artist. Ever since starting this new path I’ve been much happier and I’m super excited to see where it will take me!
